Nokomis Mixed Formulas
& Single-Plant Extracts

Our mixed formulas were developed using published scientific studies in peer-reviewed scientific journals. These mixed formulas were designed to deliver complementary extracts from multiple plants in a single formula. Our mixed formulas typically feature 2 to 4 complementary herbs.

Herbal supplements need to be of a high quality and taken at sufficient quantity for the body to absorb their nutrients. Chinese herbal traditions often recommend as much as 1 to 3 grams per day of various herbs. Other products on the market that list a dozen or so ingredients will often not provide a sufficient amount of any ingredient. Remember that each plant produces a wide range of molecules and synergists.

Why Choose A Cold-Pressed Liquid Extract?

In plant extracts —like with coffee or tea— the soluble molecules of the plant are suspended in a liquid. It takes quality ingredients to make quality extracts, and even then the process still requires time and precision.

The myriad of powdered extracts, gelcaps or concentrates on the market are often heated or put through pressurized and heated processing— what is called “supercritical” processing.

Heat and pressure strip away a broad range of compounds only to target a specific popular compounds like the withanolides in Ashwagandha. But these products often lose a broad range of therapeutic molecules and synergists inhering in the plant.

Researchers have labeled the cumulative benefit from a broad range of molecules in the plant “the entourage effect” (1). Studies have shown that isolating one popular molecule from the plant can be less effective than a whole-plant extract containing a broad range of molecules (2).

Nokomis liquid extracts are the result of extensive research and experimentation. They are cold-pressed and never heated, retaining the broad range of valuable nutritional and therapeutic compounds which are often lost in other processing methods.

Even though other products like pills and powders might be more convenient (and less bitter), they do not always have the same effect as the most potent cold-pressed liquid extracts.

Things to Keep in Mind

Many Chinese herbal manuals prescribe plant supplement doses in grams per day of the raw powdered ingredient (often ranging between 1-3 grams/day). Nokomis Extracts are made with a ratio of 350mg of raw dried ingredient per 1ml of liquid. So taking a 1ml dropperful 3x daily corresponds to just over 1 gram per day (1.05 grams exactly).

Remember that the body often absorbs the molecules from a liquid extract more readily than from a powdered herb, so someone switching to a Nokomis liquid extract will often need to take slightly less. One customer remarked that she only takes half as much of our extract to get the same effect as her old brand. We love to hear that, because it means she’s getting twice the value.

People with different metabolisms and sensitivities will respond differently to various doses. When you try Nokomis Herbal Extracts, feel the difference and adjust accordingly.

The sentence “Also, people have different metabolisms and sensitivities, metabolisms and body weights” felt like it was bifurcating a topic on the potency of our extracts enabling customers to take less. I took it out, since it doesn’t really feel like it belongs in this section as it stands. We can either add it to a new category, or expand it to make more sense as its own graf. I expanded it slightly here and moved it to the end to smooth out the flow.
